Fm-200 is an electrically non-conductive, FM-200 works by removing heat from a fire so that combustion cannot be sustained; its unique characteristics also chemically inhibit re-ignition. FM-200 agent is stored in cylinders as a liquid, pressurised with nitrogen so requiring only a very small storage 'footprint'. It is also safe to use in occupied areas. One disadvantage is the cost of the gas.
Novec 1230 although not as environmentally friendly as inert gases it is the best of the clean chemical agents so does offer a good alternative. Extinguishing via its cooling effect, Novec 1230 fluid works as a gas, yet it is a liquid at room temperature. Inergen contains a mix of naturally occurring gases comprising nitrogen, argon and a small amount of carbon dioxide, Inergen extinguishes fires and inhibits re-ignition.
Mechanical service of fire suppression systems is essential to the health of the fire system and must be carried out bi-annually in accordance with the recommendations made in the british standard BS5306
